Minehead
is an excellent base for touring. Most of Somerset & Devon are readily
accessible: south through Dunster and Tiverton to the Devon link road or via
Taunton into South Somerset or to the M5.
The A49 coastal road runs through West Somerset and North Devon
passing Porlock, Lynton & Lynmouth (see picture of the Valley of the Rocks,
Lynton on the left), Coombe Martin, Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and on to
Barnstable. Cycling off road or on quiet country roads from Minehead and
Porlock is excellent and we have cycle route maps of the area.

Spring and Summer visitors should consider a "mini
cruise" on the historic ships Balmoral and Waverley which sail out of
Minehead harbour. Sailings include a day return down the Exmoor Coastline to
Ilfracombe or across to Lundy Island, to the coast of Wales and to the 2
Bristol Channel Islands, Steepholme (see picture right) and Flatholme.
North
Devon & West Somerset have plenty of places of interest. There are superb
gardens such as the Edwardian, Victorian and Georgian garden complex at
Hestercombe near Taunton. Historic homes and other sites abound in the area:
Dunster Castle and grounds, Cleeve Abbey, Knightshayes, Forde Abbey, Arlington
Court. Within the National Park there are many "gems" for the visitor
such as Tarr Steps near Dulverton (pictured left).
